LINE CALCULATION

Upon general and geometrical data input, the main menu subdivides into two different sections:

Single span test menu :
In this case, it is foreseen that the carrier truck is on the ascent branch of one of the line spans; the horizontal distance of the truck from the downstream span end must be given. It is also required the value for the temperature change, i.e., the temperature difference in comparison with the rope laying temperature, at installation time, thus at the time when the datum tension was given. Span selection is carried out by means of the mouse through the menu:

In automatic mode, the program fills in the cells relevant to:

- line test (N°)
- span horizontal length (Lo)
- car abscissa from the downstream span end ( = 1/2  Lo )

Then, the default value of the car abscissa is changed according to the user's requirements. Depressing the relevant pushbutton (Span Test) starts the calculation process.

Menu for the automatic test of all the spans

In this case, the program sets the carrier trucks to the most significant positions in each span and, for every position, it carries out the line test. The final results are the summary of all the calculation configurations taken into consideration. The number of the initial and final spans where the presence of the truck is foreseen must be selected in the input mask.

Further, it is required the value for the test temperature change, that is the temperature difference in comparison with the rope laying temperature, at installation time, thus, when the datum tension value is pre-set. Calculation starts when the relevant pushbutton (All Spans Test is clicked out. Usually, calculation is carried out for every span, positioning the carrier truck in automatic mode to five different positions:

  • 2 meters from the downstream span end - at span middle
  • 2 meters from the upstream span end
